Conflict in Uganda

Uganda is made up of many ethnic groups. Rich groups live in the south. A poor group, called the Acholi tribe live in the north. The north and south have been enemies.

Some Acholi gangs formed the Lord's Resistance Army. In the south is the Uganda People's Defence Force (PDF). Many people have died in the fighting between the two armies.

The Lord's Resistance Army have few aims but to cause chaos and are known for kidnapping children and forcing them to fight and kill. Many of the girls are given as wives to the rebel leaders while their families and homes are destroyed. There is still war in Uganda today.
