Conflict in Cambodia
In 1975 a man called Pol Pot became the leader of Cambodia. His army and supporters
were called the Khmer Rouge. For three and a half years he ruled in terror. People
were forced from their homes and almost two million people were killed.
Vietnam then invaded Cambodia and fought the Khmer Rouge. The Vietnamese held power for 10 years. They left in 1989 when a new government took power.
Today the fighting has stopped. But many problems still exist - such as landmines and a struggling economy.
